I have 1 axolotl in a 3ft by 1ft tank and i have large pebbles in the tank and i wish to replace these with sand what type of sand should i use. Is it ok if i put dead bark and small tree logs in the tank will this cause any problems?

I have sand in my tank and i use the play pit sand they sell for childrens play pits. I gave mine a good rinse out by putting it in a pillowcase and rinsing it through the pillowcase with water. This gets rid of some of the small particles which will make the water cloudy for ages! I have it under an inch thick and give it a quick stir once a week to prevent black patches of bacteria growing.
I have some bogwood in my tank which i got from the aquarium shop (but i had to soak this for two days to get rid of the brown colour that it leaches into the water). Its probably safer just to put wood which is being sold for aquariums rather than wood which you find outside as it may leach chemicals or tree poisons into the water.

ok but!!!

Thanks but how do you clean it out

I suck up the left over food or poo with a turkey baster. You pick up a bit of sand too but just add a bit more washed sand occasionally if the level is looking low.
