What are the basics of setting up a bio-active setup?
What are the list of things that you will always need, and what is an accurate definition of a "bio-active" setup (as in, what does it need to be/do to be referred as bio-active) ?

It would be worth finding a copy of "Ecology of a Planted Aquarium" by Diana Walstad, everything you could ever need to know about natural aquariums is covered there in great detail. You could probably google "Walstad method" to find pages of discussions and articles to give you some ideas.

I love the Walstadt book.

If by "bioactive" you mean a tank with biofiltration (established bacteria that break down wastes), look up information about aquarium cycling. This means the same thing, and there are lots of articles online, and lots of discussions in the axolotl section of this forum.

I'll be sure to look for the book in amazom or waterstones
So basically, a bio-active terrarium is somewhat the same as a cycled aquarium?
