Hi,

Can someone tell me what plants I can put in a 2 gallon tank, a plant that won't grow over the top (the tank is 8" high), because I will be displaying this tank as a science fair project showing how plants work with the water cycle. Can I also use air plants? Thanks in advance!

Hey Mike,
I've done several Science Fair project for Schools and Scouts. With the Water cycle, It is important to show precipitation (transpiration/Evaporation/condensation) I've done this with putting a pant in an enclosure with a lid. I cut a clear 2 liter bottle (at the bottom) and covered the potted plant). Water droplets form on the top of the bottle after a couple of days. I also put cold water in a clear bottle with the lid. This shows condensation/ evaporation. This ties into accumulation and eventually precipitation. If you go to Enchanted Learning.com they have some free worksheets of the water cycle.
You can use a two gallon tank with a lid. Iveys and even planted rye grass is a good small plant to work with.
Good Luck.
