Does anyone know of any shows/conferences that come through the midwest? I know NARBC was just here in Chicago, and it was great, but it had very few amphibians. I didn't know of any other shows/conferences where amphibians are available in the midwest (near Illinois in particular). Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did you take a look on Kingsnake.com they have a good listing of events.

I went to a reptile expo in Detroit (well, right outside of detroit) last Sept.

We have a quarterly show here in Omaha, but alas, this is snake people country. Then again, I skipped the last show and there was a fellow with axolotls. Rumor has it that sometime next year there may be a fellow with a few caudates, a book, and some vivaria though.;)

That's the Taylor expo.

There's the Kalamazoo expo which is monthly as well.

You just missed the Midwest Frog Fest which was Oct 3rd in Joliet. Never been to it, but I get the impression it's mainly dart frogs.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
