am i able to keep ghost shrimp in a tank with my 5 inch axie, or do i need to wait until he gets bigger? i was considering getting them, as they help with cleaning

HAHAHAHA! Ghost shrimp might help with cleaning but axolotl sees them as food! :D

As a rule of thumb, before you add anything to the tank, always make sure it doesn't have parasites. A ghost shrimp algae-eating cleaning crew is going to need constant replacement. As mentioned, axolotl doesn't see them as such. Axolotl sees food! :D

I added 10 ghost shrimp to my tank with my 5” juvi (after quarantine with meds to make sure no disease or parasites). It occasionally hunted and chased them, very cute. After a week there was 4 left and the axoltol seemed to have lost interest. So now they coexist.. wait patiently out of view while the axi eats then will scrounge around for scraps. People have mixed feelings but it’s worked out in my tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
