Ok warning…: long post coming. Ive been an axie mom for 6 years now and have only had floating issues once before that fridging seemed to fix. But now our guy is struggling bad. About a month ago we noticed he was rolling to his right side, seemed lethargic and wasn’t eating. We fridged him for a few days until he was stable on his belly again….Put him back in the tank. After two days we got him to eat and the right side thing happened again. Back in the fridge. This time for 4 days. We got him out. He ate. He seemed happy but then after a few days he started to look very pale and got weird white spots. We figured it must be bacteria or parasite and did three days odd salt bath. He was eating. He was active. All seemed well for a week. But then the other day I noticed he was floating belly up!! I immediately put him back in the fridge and after two days he could stay on his feet but then his tail looked really veiny and were noticed blood coming from his gill area. What could be going on?!? Please help!

Note: water parameters are perfect and have been the whole time.

what are your water parameters ie.. temperature, ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, kh, gh. ?
what is the usual food given?
are you using any salts/minerals or medications/chemicals?

All
Parameters
Are good. He’s been on a steady diet of night crawlers till he stopped eating. We salt bathed him 3 times about a week ago

add 2g/l non-iodised salt to the water rather than using salt baths (a low level of salt is beneficial where as a high level can be stressful)
feed a carnivore diet ie.. shrimp, fish etc.. as well as worms.
apart from the floating has there been any other body changes ie.. bloat, tail curl etc..
ensure that the water is kept cold (15°c/59°f - <18°c/64°f) and oxygenated.
black tea can be used for lethargy.
test kh, gh.

I’ll try the salt when we put him back in the tank. He is in the fridge right now. He won’t eat and is always on a carnivore diet. I was under
The impression that fish could carry parasites and we’ve never been successful in getting him to eat shrimp so we’ve stuck with night crawlers for 6 years now and he’s been great. No current bloat or signs of stress. Just prominent veins on his tail as you can see in the pic. Water is always chill and the parameters are good.

fish ie.. platys, mollys, guppys ideally should be quarantined before adding to tank, fish meat can also be given.
shrimp tend to be ignored mostly when they are low in numbers, frozen shrimp ie.. mysis krill brine can also be given as well as chopped prawns.
eyed food such as shrimp fish etc.. contains vitamin A which is associated with a failure to thrive in amphibians.
