So I am taking care of my girlfriends axolotl for a little bit, getting him to eat shimo pellets fone and he is making good poops. 4 days ago i decided to feed him some blood worms after defrosting them and just gave him pellets for the next few day. He kept pooping but they had 1 or 2 whole blood worms which i thought was kinda weird after 2 days. Last night he was acting very strange floating around abit and was pale looking. Then he started thrashing and racing around the tank, which is kinda small. He then just stop and floats at just under the surface and empties his stomach, with some of the pellets from the last couple days and nearly all the bloode worms he ate 3 days ago. I have since placed him in the fridge to help him get better (his gills have turned completely white but prolly cause he is using them less.) If you guys have any advice that would be appreciated. I got the blood worms from petsmart. This is my first time care for one of these guys.

Well, I'm sure you already have, but get rid of the bloodworms. HOpefully he threw them all up. GIve him a couple days and try to feed his regular food again.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
