I breed and raise axolotls with my family for fun, most recently a very swift acting bacterial with no out ward signs prior to death took over 1/2 of my beloved babies. I put one in the fridge and only then did the signs of the bacterial really show itself. I am using a mix of furan 2 and Kanaplex as well as boiling water and chilling prior to use to eliminate any pathogens. We have an idea that this bacterial originated from the water the day we did their tank change as we only changed the tanks in which the deaths occurred. My other tanks which include both a mix of tropical and other salamanders (andersoni and axolotls) have experienced no deaths. I am shocked at how rapid this set in. I lost one yesterday in 4 hours of her acting perfectly fine to dead when I did water changes and offered food.
