Small live blood worms and C.o. larvae.

My C.o. larvae seem to have become interested in bigger and better things than daphnia, like each other. They're even going for newtlets the same size and age as them! I think all the weaklings have been killed off since it's been a while since the last death, but one of the survivors is missing a forearm. I've calculated that the blood worms at the store near me are the same size proportionately to the larvae as the earth worms I feed their parents. I was just wondering if larvae could handle the small struggle that the adults have swallowing the earthworms. I would only offer the blood worm as an occasional supplement to a still primarily daphnia diet.

Hmm, I feed frozen bloodworms to my larvae - they gladly take bloodworms that is as big as their own size. If it fits into their mouth they will take it(assuming they are hungry). I don't know the size of your bloodworms but the size of my frozen one are pretty much like a really big white worm. I only feed Daphnia until they can take bigger food like white worms and frozen bloodworms - wish I had some grindals...or blackworms...

PS I have raised T.verrucosus simultaneously with C.orientalis and the verrucosus larvae is even more aggressive than the adults when it comes to moving objects. I use this little stick when I need to reach something in their tanks - they stalk it and go for it the second they see it...The stick is as large for them as a large treetrunk would be for us - greedy pleurodeles like behaviour...DS

Well now I'm watching the larvae happilly eating and fighting with their bloodworms. Could they grow faster with such large food items?

My larvae seem to eat more the bigger food items I present, since I started them on whiteworms and bloodworms they have grown a lot faster.
