Haven't done much in a while, so I was itching to get out. Finally got the perfect night this week! Also took a friend and his son out to show them a nice spot/ get them familiar with our local salamanders.

Weather had been rain all day, lighter by the time we went out. Temps in the high 50s. The air had that perfect smell to it.

Started off finding the usual Plethodon montanus and a few Desmognathus orestes. Also 1 Plethodon cylindraceus and several Plethodon yonahlosse.

On down the trail, P. montanus and D. orestes were everywhere, as usual. I don't think I could ever tire from looking at these salamanders and their colors...

Here is one that Doug found and I had to photo.

A lot of them turn up with 'patches' on the nose. This one was had a brilliant yellow tail. There were also red ones like this, some even like p. cinereus, others looked like a two-lined pattern, and then some brown/ grey lookers and anything else you could think of.

This little one was out crawling around and went straight to a sweet defensive posture.

Best part of the night was the three Gyrinophilus porphyriticus we found.

And right next to it was this striking Eurycea wilderae! Surprising that he wasn't the meal...

That was the second E. wilderae that night, out of three.

One more P. cylindraceus was found near the end of our trail. Right as I walked over, he bucked up!

Also seen, but not photographed, were Desmognathus monticola, a larval G. porphyriticus and the NUMEROUS P. montanus and D. orestes.

Glad to have a wonderful night and meet some new people! Love bringing out good folks to good areas. Hopefully we will get out more before this cold really sets in.

Nice trip! I'm really gald to see you getting younger kids involved.

We finally got some rain last week and I was able to get out. We ended up finding 26 species of herps that night. I don't know about down there but the weather up here has been horrible for herping the last few months.

Seeing these photos makes me jealous. I wish we had as many species up here in Michigan. I'll be herping today, might get around to posting the photos. Anyways, thanks for posting the photos. Its always great to see others herping pictures.
