Hi, I am off to the Western Cape area of South Africa next week. Anyone got any good tips about amphibians/field herping in South Africa? Itr is now spring down there, so presumably best timem to see their indigenous amphibians.
any leads welcome.

Thanks,

Andrew

no specific advice, except I can recommend this book, frogs and frogging in southern Africa:

Amazon.com: Frogs and Frogging in Southern Africa (9781868726073): Vincent Carruthers: Books

quite an excellent little book with good pics and info on habitat and ecology. I bought it down there and it helped me id a few herps I found in the field when I was there.

Have fun! Remember they have bigger things than frogs in the ponds down there. If it's about 2 tons and cranky, it's not a frog, but probably a hippo!
