Hey I’m new to this site but it’s been about two weeks since I last watched my newt eat. He usually eats off of my long tweezers I have no problem and actually used to come to the front when he saw me grab them but I had an accident and the fell into the tank scaring him and ever since then he has no interest in eating. He just got done shedding but he still seems like uninterested in anything but hiding or just sits in his plants all day. I’ve had him for 5 months with no problems, I’ve checked his water tank levels like ph and hardness ect. And it’s all normal. He lives with two African dwarf frogs that are doing really well and is in a 20gal tank with lots of plants, like I said he’s been fine up until I spooked him and he’s just not the same can anyone help me?

Ok. Let's summarize :

- Your ribbed newt was used to the tweezers bringing food, but now, it's afraid of it
- I suppose this ribbed newt could eat worms or anything else without the tweezers, but the african dwarf frogs will eat the food because they are more rapid

My feeling is you'd better separate the ribbed newt and the frogs and stop with the tweezers

If you’re keeping it with ADFs, the water temps are likely too warm for the newt. ADFs don’t live long in cool water due to suppressed immune function. If the frogs are good and the best isn’t.. that’s likely why. Most newts do best in low to mid 60s.
