Has anybody any idea on what's going on..my two year old..chunky, female golden albino has suddenly become very unbalanced, seeming to be leaning to either her left or right, but not upright. I have witnessed a couple of episodes of her seeming to be spinning like a corkscrew,,,five or six vertical turns, and tonight she seems to be twitching...like hiccoughs. I have taken her out of a fully cycled tank....tested with liquids ...in which all perameters are good....mainly to keep her from her tank mate should there be an infection issue. She looks in good body condition....just miserable . I haven't seen her eat for a couple of days. I have put her into cool, fresh water, which in aim to change frequently.

I recently had this same issue with my axolotl. She started to swim unusually. and would spiral as if out of control. She would also arch her back and open her mouth wide. Overall in seemed in general discomfort. I fringed her for almost a week and then lost her. Never was sure what happened.

I did a lot of research during that time, and the only thing I found was a kidney disorder. She had the physical signs of having this disorder. So I wonder if she had kidney failure.

How is your axolotl doing now though? Has she recovered?

Re: Spinning axolol

Sadly she died, the next day.
I thought her head looked a bit swollen, so wondered about a brain or neurological issue.....guess I'll never know for sure
Thanks for your concern.
