Got my new Axolotl today. Wildtype - but instead of the 'normal' wildtype gills, they're red. And his belly isn't wildtype colouring - it's White/cream!
He isn't ill, he just has strange colouring.
Is he piebald/harlequin?

Will upload pics tomorrow :)

I've had axolotls that color. Gills are highly variable in color, and when they're more red, it usually just means the axolotl is more active or stressed. The light belly is just a variation.

Piebald axolotls have patches of white spots; they're partially albino.

Mine has the same colouring as your axolotl,he also has these red/purple gills, darkgrey back and a white/lightgrey belly.

agreed my wildtype has the same colouring.

From what I understand that's the totally normal wildtype colouring.

Not that that's a bad thing, I actually prefer the wild type skin colouring to all of the morphs to be honest as I suppose genetically they should be least selectively bred (and in-bred).

It would still be interesting to see a picture. My wild types are very dark, you could convince people they were melanoid if it were not for one or two shiny patches.
