Hi there,
I have a 2 year old male golden albino axolotl named Goldi. Since I got him at 6 months old he had a small red/brown spot on the side of his head and another at the base of his tail. The spots never changed and are not raised so I put it down to pigmentation. However, I noticed yesterday that the spot on his head has grown slightly (see photo - I struggled to get one from the front as he was expecting food and wouldn't stay still!). I've seen many axolotls with freckle-like pigmentation but do they ever get moles due to increased sun light over the summer months? I moved house 6 months ago and his new position is slightly lighter than he had before (but not bright or in direct sunlight). The one on his tail has remained the same (I have attached a photo of this for comparison).
He lives alone in a 150 litre tank with soft white sand as substrate, a hide, large pebbles and plastic aquarium plants. I have a filter with a spray bar set on low flow and he has lived in these conditions since I got him. I feed him blood worms and pellets mainly. He is completely normal in himself, eating, passing waste and moving around well. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before and has any ideas? I don't think it can be red leg as its only this one spot, its more a tan brown colour, its not raised and he has had it since I got him, only changing recently.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Caro
