strange granulosa death

I don't post about all newt deaths..they happen. But this is weird.

My pair of granulosa have been great pets fro nearly 4 years..and have been quite happy since I first bought them and nursed them back to health.They, in many way, have the most personality of any newt I've owned.

Anyway, I came home the other day and was shocked to see my friendliest newt dead in the tank.It was near the bottom in some weeds. I was freaked but newts die for no apparent reason from time to time.Yet when I went to get the newt out, it was tangled in weeds.Once I was able to loosen it,I could see it had actually strangled/and or drown in a snarl of java moss.The stuff was knotted around its neck.The one strand was like a cord.It was virtually a noose. I'll ty and post a couple pics.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

I was tempted to get rid of all my java moss but the stuff is so good for egg laying etc.

A bummer way for a newt to die anyway.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I once came home to find one of my newts trapped in some hair algae. It forms dense mats that are almost like nets, and those fibers are really strong. I thought she was dead already when I got to her - I literally had to cut the algae off of her little body. Luckily, she took a huge gulp of air once I got her to the surface. Now I'm really careful to keep the algae trimmed.

I had no idea java moss could do the same thing. It's worrisome

Yes, that is really good to know about. I have a lot of that stuff.
Unfortunate that one of the few species that grows in low light ends up being a potential serious danger.

When this sort off things happens it's alway's giving a lot of bad feelings(if I did or how stupid that I did n't)
But they happens,don't get your javamos away for it.
Last month I lost one off my T.Shanjings on a strange way to;she was for some reason in the litle watertank,just filled with water and 1 peace of a plant.
When I was cleaning the tank I found her with her tail under de plant(sticked under it somehow.)
So you see it happens on different way's.
