Illness/Sickness: Strange looking bumps and stressed axolotl

Hey everyone,

I have a very sick axolotl. He has spots on him that looks like so like any good axolotl owner we (me and the people I work with, yea my work has axolotls on display... Be jealous!!) Started daily salt baths and put him in the fridge. He definitely looks worse now. He is now showing signs of severe stress. Small crappy looking gills, curled tail, and red legs.

The water is treated and the chemistry should be fine. Since we put him in fresh water. I am going to attach some pictures and we are calling a vet who specializes in exotic animals but I also wanted some extra opinions.

Why did you start salt baths? Was it to try and treat the lumps and bumps? If so please stop the baths. Salt baths are used to treat fungus and I don't see any on your axolotl. It's looks more like irritated skin that is beginning to be sloughed off.

Do you know what the water parameters are in your tank? (ammonia, temp etc) I know you now have him in fresh water but irritated skin+shrunken gills usually = water issue

I started salt baths because it looked like fungus to me, but you definitely have a point if its just irritated skin.

Thanks for the idea. If anyone else wants to weigh in I'm all open to suggestions.

I don't have the water parameters he was in since we dumped it out but that will certainly be something I watch for in the future.
