Substrate for a more terrestrial C. orientalis

My young C.orientalis seems to be a lot more terrestrial than aquatic, spending little time in the water. I was wondering what sort of substrate I should use in a more terrestrial environment. Is gravel ok?
Thanks

I would not recommend wet gravel. It gets putrid too easily. My recommendation would be either a shallow aquatic setup, or a true terrarium with top soil or similar substrate.
