Hi my axos cloaca is swollen in a pale red colour.. should i be worried? i have read about this but there are mixed answers to this question.. some says its axolotl puberty others says red foot symptoms... he is eating well on a pelleted diet, no substrate except a couple of pebbles (big pebbles) and a few plastic plants, he lives with another axolotl, he is exactly 1 year old...

last night i found some weird jelly like substance.. spermatophores? im really not sure.. can anyone fill me up with answers?

sorry the pics are a bit blurry, he wouldnt stay still

It looks just like a male struttin' his stuff. If he maintains an appetite and acting normal I wouldn't be worried about it.

I agree with the above. When a male is sexually active, his cloaca increases to almost double in size, and his gills will be very red, he will also move around a lot as opposed to just sitting dormant.

Males can also strut their stuff even when no females are around.

I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for the replies guys, yeh his gills are red and upright, im so glad to hear that its not serious or constipation or anything bad :)

Congrats! You have grandchildren! Haha are you going to be selling the eggs, or raising them then selling juvies?

11 days later the eggs have now developed into tiny little axolotls. I have sold most of the eggs now and now left with ~22 eggs, im planning on raising them then selling them as juveniles... what do you guys think? here are some pics :D
