The vast majority (60 or so) were laid on Elodea or attached to the sides of the tank (in this case a large plastic tub). (The eggs are muddy due to the newts dragging in masses of soil every time they enter the water!)

About 20 eggs were laid on wet moss on the small land area.

Unfortunately there has been no development in the eggs and so it would appear that they are infertile. A major disappointment to be honest but hopefully we'll have more luck next summer.

Just had the same experience with my verruscos. It's a major bummer.I wonder if this happens as often in nature,or if it has something to do with the newts being captive.Anyone have insight?
