Ok so I just seen a pic of these guys and must say I am very interested. ( I knew I would eventually drift over to this side )

Would this be a good or bad beginner species? Is there a care sheet listed on this board any where ( I am off to seach now)

any tips or pointers are greatly accepted :)

Caudata Culture Species Entry - Tylototriton shanjing

Personally i don´t think it is a good beginner species. The adults available at shops are wild-caught and susceptible to a lot of problems. The captive-bred juveniles can be a bit tricky as far as i know, so not ideal for beginners either.
A very closely related species, T.verrucosus is a better option.

It's indeed a difficult species to keep (healthy), as Azhael said. I have kept them (adults wc) in the past, and within 2 weeks 7 of 8 died. At this moment I keep some juveniles cb, and still they are not easy for me, after 17 years of experience.
T. verrucosus is a good one to begin with.

I tend to agree with what the others have said. T. shanjing is certainly not an impossible species to maintain however prior experience would be helpful.

I am going to look at the T. verrucosus and see what I think of them.

Thank you for the advice.

I would agree with my learned friends Shanijing are gorgeous and a very good species to keep once they are settled, but they are tempermental, sensitive and fussy eaters, especially WC adults. Mine are great now, but the first year was a roller coaster.

I hear raising CB young is no picnic either.

TV are a great choice.
