Dear forum,

I'm new here as I've just recently gotten into the hobby with three t. verrucosus.

They should be about one and a half year old and measure between 7.5 and 9cm (3-3.5 inch).
So far they've been 100% terrestrial even though I provide them with a couple cm of water.

It was my understanding that these newts become mostly acquatic but when will that be? Does it depend on size, age or any other factors?

Below a picture of my buddies as I know the tylototriton genus is still under discussion.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
