Origin of this pair is unknown for sure but they are thought to have come from someplace other than Myanmar, possibly Vietnam, via Singapore.

Thanks Chris. Yes, they're mine.

Hi Tim,
I have 1 exactly like yours but he changes his color after going around mating with my females in a fully aquatic setup.

Any idea why he loses his light color??

I also have a coupolke like this and a couple that are very dark (no oranbge knobbles). I have seen light colors like this in alpestris too , for instance when they go into water with a muddy clay bottom substrate. In this way they mix in better with the bottom substrate.

The new Vietnamese tylototritons also have that : on land they are black in the water they get lighter. Maybe try to set them on a lighter bottomground might return those colors ??

Hi,
my tank bottom is clear n so should be lighter in color. Before he start going around mating his color is so... nice but now he is really dark
