Got up the other morning, went out on deck only to discover my 4ft tank was empty. Was absolutely gutted.

Only thing I can think of is maybe temperature drop or stand I had it on and with sudden temp change, which was really cold then dropped rapidly which may have caused it to warp and crack the bottom. Tank had been cycling for 3 weeks and just about ready to add Dot and Jock to it, so looks like they are stuck in their bucket till I sort things out. btw I have 10 axolotls

thats got to suck. it probably was the temp drop. were do u live in nz?.

Windy Welly! Im pretty peeved. Yeah the deck is sheltered and partially covered. Couldn't have this tank in the house , not much room left inside - 5 tanks already in the house.

lol im in welly to obvoiusly. my tank was 10 degree this morning

.

i doubt it would be the temp change, normally glass only cracks if you pour boiling water into it or if you get to freezing? could have been your stand though, wouldnt imagine most woods would change that much with heat drops? was it a stand designed specifically for tanks?

ten axies is alot! how bigs the floor area of the tank?

p.s. im from te puke, up in tauranga

Like Sharn, I doubt that the glass could have cracked due to a change in the weather. Was it a new tank? If not, it could have been damaged during transport, or had a pre-existing flaw. Or some un-evenness in the stand it was on. It is a bummer, but if it had no animals in it, consider it good luck that it cracked now, not later.

1200mm x 450mm (wide) x 450mm (high)

and not a new tank.

do you want to put ten axolotls in there? if so id suggest getting more tanks. id put 4 in that tank comfortably, five at max. best to give em more room than they need cause they they dont nip at each other so much

Is the stand wooden? If the tank had a leak or the wood was absorbing moisture from the air or somewhere this may have caused the wood to swell enough to crack the tank.

Just a thought of course - pointless if the stand is metal - but if it's made of wood and it's not been treated or sealed against moisture it could be a good idea to seal it

Man, that sucks Axel! You poor thing.
Your so lucky that you waited before adding your axies ** pheewww **
