Tank cycle

I have had to re cycle my tank due to taking all the water out for new substrate. I was wondering weather my filter (that was used when tank was cycled before ) will be enough to cycle (am showing ammonia from when axie was in before i realised the tank was cycling have now removed:) or will i need to get a few hardy guppies or similar any input appreciated

You can try a combination of both really. You can stick to your old filter and then use the fishless cycling method or use feeder guppies to again restablish the cycling process.

Either way you need to have a source of ammonia in your tank.
If you choose guppys your axie will not be able to return to the tank for 30 days while the guppies are being quarantined.
On the other hand you dont wanna be overloading your tank with ammonia.
you can put in some food and allow it to rot to produce ammonia.
