Test kit question?

Yesterday I stopped by a LFS to get ammonia test kits.

The woman at the store told me that they don't carry them, because most test kits are completely inaccurate and unreliable when you buy them - after sitting in hot warehouses and trucks, the chemicals have changed or warped or gone bad in some way, and will not give an accurate reading.

Is this true?
If it is, where do I get a "fresh" kit?

The dry tab kits are the best ones to get. But she's right, most test kits, by the time you get them, are expired and are basically junk. Try ordering one from the company direct, or online (I like Big Al's Online, google it).

The petsmart by me actually does water tests for free so I take advantage of that.
