Testing kits in Australia!

Hi there everyone

I bought a new tank today to start cycling for my future axies. (I went to Pet Magic on Albany Highway) - anyway, i got a filter and some water conditioner, as well as some poor little fish who are doing the cycling for me.
The guy that served me was friendly, but he seemed to be a bit vague about some things (like it's ok for axies to swallow gravel because they just pass them??) anyway, he told me that if i wanted to test the water and stuff, i'd have to get 3 different testing kits, each about 30-35 dollars..so he said it would be better if i just brought in samples for him to test..
So i was just wondering if anyone in perth knew where i could get better/or cheaper testing kits??? Or what the best testing idea is in the Perth area??

Thanks for your help

I'm feeling too lazy to actually do a search online, or re-read previous threads and actually type up the info, but here's a link to another thread a while back:

No way you should be paying 30$+ on a single test kit, that's a rip-off! I've seen some on ebay at decent prices lately, you may want to check there! Hope that helps

i'm checking out the sites mentioned in that thread - cheers!

Hey Maddie,

I just got a cheapie testing kit of about $10.

But I find (and I know plenty of enthusiasts here will beg to differ) that just monitoring the water yourself and making sure its always clean etc is enough to keep your little fellas happy.
Thats just how I do it anyway and there seems to be no complaints from my guy.

Good Luck!

Hey Madeleine - the axies at Pet Magic are my babies!! Test kits are generally cheaper if you go to any City Farmers outlet in Perth.

I have a small test kit that tests nitrate levels, ammonia, chlorine, and some other stuff that I got for about 12 dollars (in the US). But, a local pet store has this big fancy set that I take water in every so offen because I just assume it tests for more and is better (because it is an expensive one lol).
