I know there are threads for the reptofilter but has anyone used the decorative version? will newts climb the the holes in the bottom?

Hi Mina,
I am not familiar right off hand with the filter that you are referring to. Also you did not mention which species that you keep but newts in general can squeeze into incredibly tight spaces. Is there a link to a photo?

I dont have a photo, but its a 2 cm by 2cm ish hole for C. eniscuada (sp?)

that size would definatly be a problem.

can you put some filter material in it ir something else that would block the entrance?

well Thats an estimate

and there medium size newts. ill get pictures up soon.

If it's about 2cm x 2cm at an estimate they should be pretty big ensicauda's not to be able to crawl in it.

I have bought a large roll of a white mesh (one inch thick) filter material from a Koi pond supplier. You can get it in different grades to let only small particles thru or larger particles. I use it in my Koi pond to cover the pump intake. I have started using it in my aquariums to cover the pump intake on them too after I had a newt stuck in one of my pumps. I have not had a problem since (just keep in on with a rubber band). Check any of your local garden supply stores that carry garden pond supplies.
