There are threshold values for raising C. ensicauda popei, but that seems to be solely based on the highest and lowest temperatures of Okinawa, the island of origin. However, this does not account for the various methods that newts may use to dissipate heat in the wild, as well as the real temperature in shaded, moist areas. Because of that, the ideal temperature may be actually much lower than the upperbound threshold values. With that being said, what temperature range do you feel is the "best" for popei? Should there also be a difference between the water temperature of an aquatic newt and the room temperature of a terrestrial juvenile? Rearing at around 72 F would be playing it safe, but if 76 F is just as safe, with the added bonus of lower electricity costs and faster growth times, it seems like the better idea to go with the latter. Your thoughts are very much appreciated!
