I am considering getting 6 Kwei's and I recieved pictures of the 6 newts. If you guys can take a look and see if anything is visually wrong and to verify they are the right sex. How exactly do u sex them?

Ok well these six are going to be here tomorrow. I am taking them to get a quick vet check tomorrow then I am on my way to setting up the tank (got a few weeks to do it). Any suggestions on how to setup a false bottom tank for these guys? Also do you think a 30 Gallon tank is big enough for them?
 
For 6, I would say thirty is too small. A 30 breeder maybe, but try a 40 gallon breeder, they have lots of surface area. I haven’t noticed mine to be territorial at all, most of the time they rest in newt piles.
 
Well it turns out I ordered 4 newts and they send me 10. So now I have to try to sell of a couple of these guys.... If you guys know anyone ;)
 
No they did not mistakenly send me more. I didnt understand them on the phone when he said "I will throw in some more." I bought the last of their stock and I had negotiated prices with them for about an hour. He finally just said, I will settle for $xxx.xx for 4 of them. And he sent me 6 more with a thank you note. He had to unload them because he was moving and is getting shanjings to put in his tank instead.
 
I had to because I need the money. I woke up this morning to find that my good old All-Glass Aquarium is cracked & slowly leaking.
 
Justin, in the mean time you can use a larger plastic storage container from wal-mart or something like that. I bought a large one for under 10$ a week ago. But Michael is right, keep them fed, let them relax and acclimate for a month or two before shipping them out again.
 
I agree, it will be much better for the animals if you keep them for a couple of months. Also, if you need a self-serving reason to hold onto them... keeping them until they are acclimated will allow you to keep for yourself the ones that become the most well-adjusted to captivity. If you keep only 4, you may find yourself with only 1 or 2 if they turn out to acclimate poorly.

Plastic storage tubs are the way to go!
 
I sent them to Paris since she helped me pick them out. She is such a sweetheart. I know I should let them relax, but they needed proper care and since my tank cracked I dont have time to spend the time on them. I am confident Paris can nurse them back to excellent health. Thanks for the concern for the animals. Trust me when I say the reason I gave them to Paris was because I know they would be in the best possible hands. Paris, have fun with your 8 new friends ;)
 
My boss was going to keep 2 of them from my shipment as a trial to see if he wanted to breed them. However when the tank he was going to use for the setup got purchased by a customer he decided to wait.

Personally Mike, I really do not care if you dont buy my "story". Being a college student paying my own way, every extra bit of money has to be wisely invested. My tank broke and I have a large group animals to save. I dont see how you can think that buying a new tank to a college student isnt enough reason. I needed to get money back in my hands so I can get my fish, etc out of plastic bags and back into a home.

Also, I did not post these for sale and Paris just responded. She had been walking me through the whole process of getting them, nursing them to health, etc. I contacted people outside of the board as well who have experience with them and they understood my situation and were welcome to help me out.

I bought them because I had interest in breeding them, however if I do not have the money i thought I was going to (because of buying a new bow front tank) it is more cruel to the animal to "try my luck" and see if the animals would make it without proper initial care (with lack of funds).
 
FYI also-he like a few others is letting me get them on a pay later plan, because i have the meds on hand right now and am currently consulting my vet for these animals specifically, i am a good choice to treat them and give them a fighting chance-i told him to pick out the best looking ones and send me the sick ones, i feel i have enough experience and know how, to get these back to health. and if for some reason his dont do well and mine do-then i will send him some back, he is spreading out the risk.
