Thanks to Kaycie I have successfully transferred Mikey to a land based habitat. He seems to be adjusting okay to it. I have a small pool of water, coco fiber base and a big 1/2 log for him to hide under.

However, I need to know if I should keep a light on part of the time for him. Also, I have tried to feed him mealworms but he doesn't want to take them. Any suggestions? I think he might just be adjusting to his new surroundings but I'm not sure what should be considered "normal" behavior. Any help would be appreciated as I want to make sure he is safe, healthy and happy. He should be having some company soon as one of our other males has started morphing.

try giving him another hiding place he might be slightly stresed also try feeding him waxworms they are nice and tasty for salamanders and other anphibians:D

best of luck

No you do not need light. And concerning the food, mealworms aren't a good food for caudates anyway. They may bite your animal and they are high in fats. Waxworms are good as an occasional treat, but they are also high in fat. I would suggest trying to give it some earthworms. They are very nutritious and are a good staple diet. Here is an article that may also help you http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/foods.shtml.

Thank you so much. I will get him some earthworms today. He does appear to be much happier today and enjoying the entire habitat. ;)
