I figure that the ideal situation for breeding mole salamanders is an out door pond properly enclosed. The problem with this is what do you do if you want to breed several species or color variants? You can try to time share the pond or have multiple ponds, but who has space for that, so my goal is to design a breeding enclosure that meets the minimum requirements, An indoor breed setup would be good and I believe I can simulate most conditions, however, I like tackle a problem by starting with a little variables as possible, so the first step is the out door enclosure, Provided that natural weather and lighting conditions meet their needs the only variable I need to be concerned with is size, and of course maturity and fitness of the animals. So here is my first attempt, with scalability in mind I made a wooden enclosure approximately five feet, by two feet, by three feet. it is made out of 2X8 pressurized deck lumber and will be lined with Styrofoam and then fiberglass. 1/3 is set for land. The land and water sections are approximately 16 inches deep. I will take exact measurements when it is completed see pictures below.
