Timer for Forum Posts??

Hi again all,

I don't know whether this is a technical glitch or my computer is losing it. Whenever i post something on the forum, there seems to be a 'countdown' and after a particular period, when i click post, i am brought to the log in page again to re log in. In that process, i would lose all the things i have typed out so far. Needless to say, i find that super frustrating.

I know i have the propensity for long naggy posts but racing against the clock to post has made me cranky. I don't have time to stop and look out for typo errrooors and punctuation> What i do now is i actually type in word document then copy and paste over before posting.

Quick question. What do browser do you use? I have run into this problem using Internet Explorer but never with Firefox.

Hey Ray, when I am at work and make posts (which you know how BAD that connection is) I always go ahead and type my post then just copy it. If I lose my connection and the post doesn't go through then all I have to do is paste it and try again. Sure beats having to run another program.

Oohh i use internet explorer. So the mystery is solved.. oh wait but why only internet explorer? So it must be some kind of technical glitch?

Hi Ray,

I get the same thing sometimes. I do what Justin does - after I type out my message but before I hit "Submit", I mark all and copy (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C) just in case.

I assumed it was a security timeout from the website itself, not from iE.

Well, there is a time out (unless you check the "remember me" box when you log in) so that may be your issue with long posts. I believe it is 25 minutes. I have had problems where IE won't recognize me as logged in well under that time limit. It's IE6 and its not something I can easily replicate and it seems to be some sort of problem with cookie handling or something.

Yes, probably a cookie problem. Clearing that caudata.org cookie should help.
