To simplify or not to simplify

I was wondering...i really like elaborated tanks...with substrate, rocks...wood, etc.
But lately i´ve seen many tanks with just water and plants. I´m starting to think about taking everything of my cynops tank.

Do simple tanks work better? i see a lot of advantage in cleaning...but does it really make a difference??? I´m wondering about simplifying it mostly because my cynops are a little "stupid" when it comes to eating bloodworms. Unless you put it in front of them and move it they don´t see it. it´s been like that for the last 20 days or so. They seem to confuse gravel with bloodworms hehe and they miss the worms.

So what any of you recomend a simple tank better???

My tank is simple, a few hiding places some natural gravel and elodea. So far so good.

I think as long as a tank has hiding places and some live plants you're good.

Well mine is pretty elaborated...rocks..thick gravel layer, undergravel pump...
I was thinking of simplifying it a lot...for them to find food eassier, and for making things easier to clean too. The gravel is becoming full of debris in some parts i cannot syphon.
