Oh my Gosh!! Beautiful...
Just look at that colouration on the toes!!! How big is it? It looks very robust.

Congratulations Andy!

Hi Rachel, they're morphing at around 60mm or so and i've been feeding them loads in anticipation of their "not eating" stage. Hopefully they'll begin eating pretty soon.

gorgeous andy!
looks like a very healthy and happy animal.

Beautiful.Keep us posted on your juve husbandry for this species Andy. Details are good!

you can already see the side splotching that your adults have... maybe lol ;).

Just for the record...
I've had 34 of these morph so far. They seem to get their typical Kweichow colours quite fast compared with Shanjing morphs...only after 2 or 3 weeks.

Up until recently they were quite shy morphs and i hadn't seen them eat...though they were quite chubby. Today however they seemed quite bold and were feeding right in front of me as i was dropping food in front of them.

They are very healthy. In terms of colouration though. I am quite surprised how quickly my shanjings developed their patterns.

Hi Rachel, i guess there must be a few factors with regards to how fast Shanjing get the colours. Mine took a good few months to get theirs.

What temps are your morphs at, Rachel?
My Shanjing morphs were kept at about 60f for the first few months, this may be why they took so long.

I was struggling to kep the temps down and they varied at around 70s. Next time I would love to keep them cooler as I think this is one of the reasons why they began to morph at such a small size.

Yes, for sure...they'd morph larger if kept a little cooler.
Thats what i meant about these getting their colours faster than Shanjing...my Kweichow morphs are also at 60f right now...just that they're colouring up real fast compared to the Shanjing.

For some reason i keep taking really bad shots of these morphs! but i wanted to post this very bad and fuzzy picture as you can still get an idea of how some are colouring up

Nice job Andy.

They look good. Are all the morphs eating well?

What is the most popular food choice?

At some point I'd love to see a wide view pic of your juve/morph rearing operation. And your newt room.

I'm slowly turning my office into a newt haven as well.

My wife must be thinking "how did this happen?"

Hi Gord,
yes, the morphs are eating real well and seem to prefer the lesser wax worms, though they also get very small crickets and any small worms that i find.
I'll get a shot of the set up im keeping them in though it's nothing exciting...just an inch or so of soil, cork hides and moss. For the first few weeks after metamorphosis i also have a third of their set up covered in damp kitchen paper just until their skin thickens up and becomes rougher.

As for my newt room....at the moment it's just a mess and has tanks pretty much everywhere! I have plans to smarten it all up though so i'll wait and post a picture when it's all done

Andy:

Looking good Andy. Whatever you are doing must be working.

Still the same diet?

Thanks for keeping us up to date!

Hi Gord, i have been putting bloodworm on damp paper towels lately. They go crazy for it!...other than that everything is the same
