Hey all, i think i want to start some of the Tylototrin newts, and i have a couple questions about the set-up. I have a ten gallon i want to start with(just for a pair), and i want to set it up with about 4" of coco-fibre and soil, and lots of live plants like umbrella plants and java moss. I am also going to add a large water bowl with floating moss in it and maybe a fogger. What do you think? Any suggestions, plus pics of your set-ups would be great

Hello Eric,
You did not mention which species that you are interested in however it sounds as if you are considering T. shanjing (judging from the terrestrial design). A 10 gal is on the small side but it should be OK for a pair of shanjing. If you plant it too heavily you may not often see the animals. I personally would not add a fogger - it is not necessary and could potentially put out too much heat in an enclosure of that size.

So what are the heat requirments for T. shanjing? I know it's on the cool side right?

If you are setting up a shanjing tank you should figure out where you can get some. Tylototriton are not always available. I hunted around before I found my shanjing. Most of the other tylototriton kept in the U.S. are more aquatic than shanjing.
