Start off with 'chyrid fungus' which is most common among all caudates.

There are good infos in axolotl.org :

For more details, add :
- Flavobacterium columnare, a bacteria attacking gills, mouth, tail... and often confused with a fungus
- Fungi of the group Saprolegnales, usual weakness parasites thriving on wounds or stressed animals
- Anchor worm Lernaea, which is actually a crustacean, parasite also on fishes
- Argulus, a parasitic crustacean also thriving on fishes (don't give axies daphnia from a pond containing fishes !)
- Ranavirus, causing erythema and ulcerations (diagnosed in the axolotls collection of a laboratory)

There are probably many others ...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
