I have 7 alpine larvae of around a month old. Relatively early on I had to isolate one as it wasn’t managing to compete for food and I’ve noticed that this one hasn’t grown anything like as fast as the others. It took a while to get it to eat consistently but it’s eating ok now.
It’s still very small in comparison to its siblings. It’s also a lot paler. The most concerning thing though is the fact that the limbs don’t seem to have developed properly. The other newts are using the forelimbs and hind limbs well but the little one doesn’t seem to be weight baring on them at all and they just flail a bit really.
I wondered if anyone had experience of this and could tell me about it please. Did the newt catch up? Or did they ever gain function of their limbs? Etc
I’ve attached some images of the wee one (first two images) and some of the siblings for comparison
Thanks in advance, any help would be very much appreciated
