My axolotl seems to have still a red rash he has had it since i have got him now (over 4 months) but during different times of the day it fades but never completely goes, apart's from that he is fine, after feeding time it normally comes back, in the morning it is usually faded. also i clean 25% of the water a week, and his rash seems to be more red, but a while ago i broke my wrist and did'nt really clean his tank often and the rash faded out, almost gone, do i clean his tank too often?

do you have a white one, leucistic/albino or golden?

When they're active they can go a bit pinker/red gills and or different parts of body. Also, in warmer temperature, when they're stressed, during feeding and after gills and body are redder (especially my baby axies - my sister's adult ones just go bright pinkish in the tail and gills when they're feeding or swimming/active or it's warm)'

Do you test your tankwater at all and/or add a water conditioner to your tapwater before you do a waterchange? And is waterchange water at same room temperature (ie kept in the same room for a few hours so it's same as the tank temperature).

Maybe he gets stressed or excited as the case maybe if he's getting fed or when the water gets changed.

I change mine weekly, just did all my sister's tanks today which are also done weekly (i'll be so glad when she returns next week!)

no i don't take tests the pet shop said it was'nt important if i clean it often,(i will be getting test kits soon) but i have a gravel filter that picks up all his left over food and yucky stuff from the bottom, and yeah i use water conditioners, and he is white (and he is so cute), thank'you very much i think you have given me the right answer because he is always excited!
