Update on Eggs!

I posted a couple days ago seeking help regarding accidentally having axolotl eggs! i figured i would post a couple pictures to update everyone and possibly help anyone else out who’s accidentally gotten eggs. Our eggs are 5 days old (laid 4.27.22)

The pictures include what we are doing with our eggs currently; the container is glass and has a lid and is left unbothered other than when the eggs were removed from the parents tank (because they’ll eat the eggs if left in).

My next question is wether i should separate the eggs into individual containers once they hatch or before hatching? We will only be keeping 20 hatchlings to raise as a fun adventure but i’m not sure if we should disturb them now to pick out 20 to keep.

Once hatched I moved the fry into new tubs away from the eggs. I use little plastic `take away` tubs, about 120 x 180mm roughly in size, filled with dechlorinated water. About 20+ per tub at this stage is ok.

Within a couple of days they will want feeding. With mine I got myself two brine shrimp hatcheries and started hatching baby brine shrimp every day and feeding them to the baby axolotls every day. Takes a while but eventually they grow and as they do separate them out further so they don’t get on top of each other, more so when the front legs start to come through, as that is when they get a bit cannibalistic.

Yes, let it also be mentioned that you may want to keep a little more than 20, just incase defects appear. Many people on this site would be willing to buy eggs too!

It’s a fine balance for sure. I have about just over 100. All just over 1.5 to 2 inch long. Not difficult to look after but very time consuming.

Very shortly I have to sell them, I’ve tried a few pet shops who seem to be interested, but would rather sell them direct to people.
