Early this morning I closed the forum down to make a backup (as some of you noticed I'm sure). I'm currently downloading that backup. This is in preparation for our upgrade to the latest vBulletin software (the forum software), version 3.7.1. This will add a lot of social networking facilities, including links for each thread for digg, facebook, etc. It will also add the ability to have your own blog here on caudata.org. There will also be additional minor cosmetic changes to the site. At the present time there is no plan to distinguish between donors and non-donors with regard to accessing the new features (i.e. anyone will be able to have a blog here). That last part is not set in stone as yet but it's the current plan.

This upgrade will take place in a few hours from now. That means the forum will not be accessible to to everyone, except for the two administrators. I ask for your patience and positive vibes that everything goes smoothly.

See you on the other side,

-John

This might get put back a day or two depending on some interaction I'm having with the ISP admins.

Scratch that. I am now ready to proceed with the upgrade. I will probably do so within the hour.

The upgrade is complete. It took me just under 5 hours. I still have the blog feature to add.

Oh yeah, and if you see any issues let me know. I just saw one myself.

Spotted another problem with the page width.

From what I can see its looking good...I like the profile pages but now have a need to find friends now!!.

I just turned on social networking and I added facebook and reddit to it manually. I have also fixed the page width issue. I've stayed up all night doing this and now I've got to get some sleep. I'll hopefully add the blog software later today.

Sorry, can't help myself. How about a customised profile (sorry only for Donors, Site Contributors and Moderators). Or a social/interest group? Or your own private photo album? (not part of the galleries)

Those are just some of the things I've discovered so far. And later today there will be the blog feature.

Things look fine. The only odd thing I've noticed (besides the different link colors) is that the message input box in the Galleries section has shrunk down to a very small width. But that's not a real problem.

How did the link colours change - I know I did that but I couldn't remember exactly what was what (as in what link was what color).

I have upgraded the gallery software (photoplog) to the latest version to fix that. That might complicate other areas of the galleries so if anyone notices any problems please let me know.

Feedback is welcome on all the changes.

I haven't looked around much yet but I do like the new profiles, I am however a little confused about how the rep power works.

Reputation works like before, but John has added a little more transparency to the system. Each person has a reputation power based on how long they've been with the site, their post count and their reputation. A person that has high numbers in all three categories has a high reputation power and vice versa.

When a person gives someone reputation they move that persons reputation up or down by their reputation power. So if John gives someone good reputation their reputation points go up by 199. If he gives you a bad reputation it goes down by 199.

Thank you for clearing to up for me Abrahm. Just another question though, if your rep power changes it won't affect people you've already left reputation for, will it?

I noticed that the profile links from the chat room don't work anymore; is this permanent or just a bug?

Actually it goes down by 50% of your reputation power when you give negative. Positive is the full whack. Everything else is absolutely true though.

I hadn't noticed. I'll take a look.
