Just made this for axolotl-aholics and figured I'd also share this here for those who needed the links and info.
* Many states have laws that require health certificates with any imported animal. These were not included as there are many.

• Virginia
Require Permit for possession and import. Import also requires certificate of good health.
4VAC15-30-40. Importation Requirements, Possession and Sale of Nonnative (Exotic) Animals.

• Maine
Require permit(supposedly difficult to obtain). Has list of species permitted, and axolotls are not on the list.
: Maine IF&W

• Hawaii
Listed as conditionally approved. Require permit to be imported

Plant Industry Division | Plant Quarantine – Application for Permits

• California
Prohibited. Permits not granted to individuals.
SB 1424 Senate Bill - AMENDED

• New Jersey
Not on the exempted species list(list that doesn’t require permits), and the permit application specifies axolotls as not being allowed period.

Alaska
Not specifically prohibited. Ornamental fish are allowed. These are defined as: “Finfish, such as goldfish, betas and guppies are ornamental fish, and according to Alaska law, so are aquatic invertebrates, and amphibians that are common in the aquaria trade.”

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
