USCR: New Co-ordinator Needed

Well, it looks like Aaron's life has waylaid him and the USCR is now in a sorry state. Therefore we're looking for someone to take over the management and running of that site, or, better still, create an online studbook of US animals, along the lines as those created by our Dutch and German members and friends.

If you're interested, make it known here please.

Yes, he wrote it in php I believe, but I don't think you'll have to modify the php itself. Even if you had to, it's not very complex code. I can help you get to grips with it if necessary.

I'd be willing to take on the responsibility of the site. I have no life and plenty of time to manage the USCR. Furthermore I hate seeing the site in its current state and definitely would like to see it restored and help in its restoration. The only part I have to question are my skills with the coding. However, if it is as easy as you make it seem (although you are a genius, John, and I am a putz) and there are few modifications if any to be made, then I would definitely be up for the challenge.

I can assist in any other ways, especially coding, If Mark needs any help at all...I am usually on my computers so time doesnt matter, Although Php is pretty user friendly Im sure I won't be needed.

<font color="ff6000">I'm familiar with Perl or CGI if this can help. I took these class' in college.</font>

CGI is not needed for php scripting, And perl is just another scripting language(A dumb one at that), Neither really coincide properly with php(In my opinion)...

Well I take it that Beth, Josh and Mark are nominating themselves (and Mark, I'm not a genius). My own preference would be for Mark due to the fact that I've knowledge of him for a few years. However I would appreciate third party opinions on each of the volunteers.

To run a site like this requires commitment and regular updates. That means that we're looking for someone who could make that time commitment.

Best wishes,

John

I nominate Josh based on the fact that he has the computer know how, definetly the spare time and seems to be more eager than anyone else. We need to get the USCR up and going again. I really like the idea and was bummed when it fell to the current state its in. Lets get it going again!

I put my vote in for Mark. He's a good guy, been around for a while and gained the friendship and respect of many people(including my own), and has his heart in the right place as well as the ambition.

I like the idea of Mark taking over. I've known him for years now, and he's got the time on his hands (lucky guy) to turn the site around. Not to mention he's got a fantastic working knowledge of salamanders. It's not so much the computer know-how because we've got a ton of computer-savvy people who can help out...it's the motivation factor.

There's quite a few ideas being kicked around for the new site and it should be good, so stay tuned

I admit I'm in favour of Mark for the same reasons mentioned by Mike and Nate. Given what Nate and Dave have mentioned they would like for the new USCR, I think the motivation factor is the primary prerequisite.

<font color="ff6000">Well, if you need help with anything, I'm here. I took up Javascript, Perl, C++, and VB. I also took courses in Frontpage and the rest of Microsofts Office family. They require a lot to get your degrees. Doesn't sound like a house wife hey.</font>

<font color="0000ff">p.s. Josh, are you calling CGI dumb so you get nominated? I understand not being chosen, but to say CGI is dumb. CGI is very powerful if you know what your doing, especially on a UNIX system. PHP is the dynamic webpage tool so that is important I know. I see the USCR uses script HTML pages and use PHP for the form processing and database, you don't think CGI can do better? The folders magic simply uses borrowed dynamic HTML using the Javascript language. You can also write this in VBscript.</font>
