Verrucosus and current

Hello folks:

It's been pretty quiet here in Tylo forum land. Winter doldrums?

Anyway, I recently add a Fluval plus 1 in tank filter to my Verrucosus set up. They've never had any filter in the water up till now. I'd been debating whether or not to put filtration in for some time (since they went aquatic) but decided to when I saw them swimming madly against the glass. I checked the ammonia and it was on the high side. So I decided to filter. Anyway, instead of letting the flow go straight into the tank, I rigged up a long piece of tubing and made a mini waterfall on their land side. The tubing goes all they way around the back of the tank and is held up by suction cups. The water sprays down on some leaves and and a rock before it diffuses in to the tank. The current is there, but it's minimal. I put two mats of java moss were the water enters the tank as an added buffer. For the first 12 hours, my V went crazy, swimming and crawling non stop. They definitely didn't seem to like the filter. However, this evening I came in and the big girl was sitting on a rock that had water spraying on it. She looked...well, pleasured! Her head was up and she looked blissful. The male(?) was on the bottom, facing the current and just seemed to be letting it flow over his back. He'd go up to breathe and then swim back down and took up the same position. The water also looks a lot better and is much more clear. I'm pretty sure I've made the right decision by filtering the tank.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed their Verrucosus luxuriating in current flow...or under "waterfalls".

Gord,

I have also noticed this in my verrucosus setup. I have a 33 long set up 50/50 with a waterfall in the end flowing into a river and into the water portion where the water flow is dissipated by large rocks. They all seem to enjoy sitting either under the waterfall or on the rock that breaks the water.
