Hello all,

My girl Sisa is quite an oldie - about 11 years old! The past few weeks she has been very lethargic with no appetite and she's also been very floaty. I believe she might be showing signs of old age... but I am not sure. I have decided to fridge her to try and help with the floating and slow her metabolism down whilst she refuses to eat. I know it's totally safe but just feeling very nervous about it and just needed to vent somewhere about it!!

I am about to test her water parameters now and do a partial water change.

Does anyone know what the sure signs are that your axolotl is showing signs of old age?

Just tested water parameters and they're looking pretty good:

pH 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 60

Making me think this might definitely be an old age thing :(

They usually live 10-15 years so they may be signs of old age, particularly lethargy, but I don't know for sure. The fridging should help with the floating. Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see her!
The nitrates are a little high for my liking so maybe do a couple more small water changes, or a bigger one, to bring it down.

Okay thank you I will do another water change.
