Hi,
I am new to the community. I am getting a Tiger on Friday and I have a question. I keep reading contradictory information regarding whether or not a shallow bowl of water should be provided for a Tiger. Some say yes but others say no. And those who say no also mention that there is some evidence that a water bowl increases the chance of disease.. I would appreciate your thoughts on this debate. Thanks

I personally would have a water bowl in the tank, they will take a soak every now and then, and its good if you forget to mist the tank and it gets too dry.
Ive only heard about a higher risk for disease in tanks with a dedicated water area, rather than water bowls that would get changes every couple of days or daily.
I like to keep my tiger in an enclosure of sloped coconut fibre with a water dish in the corner at the bottom of the slope.

I have a two in one hide/water dish and little pirate loves it!

They're totally fine without one. I personally think its too much of hassle to deal with changing a water bowl daily.

Tiger sals do enjoy having them though.

Not essential, but when i used to keep tigers they would sit in the water bowl a lot.
Sometimes completely submerged and swimming around.
If i ever kept them again i would definately add a large water bowl.

In my opinion it is better to have one and the Tigers don't use it than not have one but the Tigers want it. Always better to have the option.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
