I agree with seedy - for water quality and stability it is best to have as much water in your tank as possible. If you do not have a lid on your tank, leave some air on top so that your Axolotls can't jump out when they are startled.
I've heard many on this forum state that it's best that your water be as deep as your axolotl is long. Does anyone else have any comment on this? is there enough water in my tank? see videos:
