While at the Edinburgh Hospital for Small Animals recently, we were warned that Edinburgh had changed its 'secondary disinfectant' from chlorine to chloramine, and that this had been causing problems for pet owners, and at the zoo. They gave us a list of water treatments that do and do not deal with chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. I'm reproducing this below in case you find it useful:

API Ammo Lock (www.aquariumpharm.com)
Aquascience ultimate (aquascienceresearch.com/Ultimate.html)
Kent Ammonia Detox (www.kentmarine.com)

Seachem AmGuard (www.seachem.com)
Seachem Prime (www.seachem.com)
Tetra Aquasafe (www.tetra-fish.com) * This is the one that I (and Aberystwyth Uni) use

Deals with Chlorine and Chloramine; NOT ammonia:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
