I was on Instagram a while back and I came across this picture. At first I thought it was photoshopped, but there were tons of pictures and videos of it in its tank, so it's definitely not photoshopped. What type could it be? Or was it injected with something to make it the color it is?:(

Axolotls can get injected with dye like fish and ACFs. And judging by its tail, and what I can see from the housing, it doesn't look very healthy.
I have seen an instagram post of a small tub filled with dye injected Axolotls, I was glad to see that all of the comments were about how bad it was though.

This is so frustrating to see...why, why must people do things like this to animals? Its ugly anyway, it looks like a smurf :(

I don't know why people can't accept creatures the way they are naturally intended to be. An axolotl is a beautiful creature. Why harm it with dyes? Sad part is so many people think theses fake colors are natural. Same goes for dyed fish and so many creatures.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
