Update 6/1/24 - they’re 5-10 now

My baby had big floofy gills and over the last few days I’ve noticed a change. Ph is 7.6, ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0. Nitrate was a little high so I did a water change and it brought them down some. I’ll do another water change tomorrow to see if I can bring them down some more. They’re at 20-40 currently. She (too young to tell but don’t like saying it) hatched in January and is right about 7 1/2 inches long. She’s acting normal and is eating normal. Slimecoat is NOT peeling. Tank mate is completely fine. I know that sometimes it’s genetics but I’m freaking out and need some advice or ideas on what’s going on. First two pictures are about a month ago. Last four pictures are from yesterday. Two from when she was tubbed during the water change and two from in her tank afterwards.

I am going to do another big water change when I get home tonight.

can't find no pictures but if it is possible fungus check you water kh and gh, if low add/use 100% holtfreters + 0.2g/l magnesium sulphate, once treated reduce to using 50% holtfreters + 0.1g/l magnesium sulphate as a preventative, if your kg gh are good use 3.5g/l non iodised salt to treat then reduce to 2g/l to act as a preventative.
if there is no signs of fungus but the gills are being damaged use 2g/l non iodised salt in the water to act as a protective, preventative and to help with regrowth, the salt level either on its own or mixed with holtfreters won't harm your other axolotl but may affect any plants you have in the tank.
